Description

Mature cheese, perfect on its own with Mrs Balls Tomato Chutney or Peppadews. The flavour of old Gouda is more piquant and spicy than regular Gouda.

A little about the origin:
Gouda is the most important Dutch cheese. It comes from the town of Gouda, northeast of Rotterdam. Gouda is "old" if its time of maturation is between 8 months and 2 years. This cheese is then crumbly and has an almost orange-yellow colour. It is usually covered with black plastic (as opposed to the yellow of regular Gouda). It is hard to slice and is very crumbly due to its low water content.

In The Kitchen:
Perfect on its own or with pasta, salads and sandwiches. Adds interesting dynamic to a cheeseboard.
Storage: Best bought whole if you won't consume it right away so it will not dry out quickly. Store in the fridge with cheeses of the same type, wrapped in grease-proof paper enclosed in a plastic box.
