When George Stephen invented his iconic kettle barbecue in 1952, he surly never dreamed that his creation was to become a design that would revoulationise outdoor cooking and entertaining all over the world.
Like many people today, George was frustrated with his basic open grill barbecue that left meat burnt on the outside and raw in the middle and whilst working at Weber Brothers Metal works of Chicago, he came up with an ingenious idea. He took a metal buoy, Sawed it in half, Put legs underneath and used the top half as a lid. He then cut a vent in the top and bottom. This design allowed George to control the flames and temperature. The result? Delicious, Perfectly-cooked food with rich, barbecue flavor that surprised and delighted everyone who tasted it!
Throughout the 60’s and 70’s, TV stations across the USA picked up on George’s story. The Weber® kettle barbecue became a householder name and so the modern barbecue culture was born!
